Difference between these two Diagram showing the difference between "lead" and "pitch" in screws. Lead The lead is the axial distance the screw moves in one revolution. Pitch The pitch is the axial distance between adjacent threads. They are the same in "single-start" screws, but in "multiple-start" screws the lead is equal to the pitch multiplied by the number of "starts".
